Purple Frog Property was established by co-founders Patrick Garratt and Greg, who first met in September 2004 during their initial days at the University of Birmingham. Both individuals shared an interest in business, which led them to conceive the idea for a property company approximately 18 months after their initial meeting. The inspiration for Purple Frog Property stemmed from Patrick Garratt's personal experience with subpar student accommodation, which he identified as a problem requiring a solution during a 'Business Plan' module at university. This experience solidified the founders' belief that they could offer a superior service for both tenants and landlords in the student property sector.

The concept for the company gained momentum, and Patrick and Greg sought support from the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Centre at the University of Birmingham, securing a small grant to initiate their venture. Initially, the company operated from their university bedrooms, with viewings arranged between lectures. By the time the founders were preparing for their final examinations, they had cultivated a portfolio of clients. In November 2007, Purple Frog Property opened its first dedicated office on Dawlish Road in Selly Oak, Birmingham.

The business experienced rapid growth, leading to plans for expansion into additional cities. Within 18 months of establishing their first office, the firm expanded its operations by opening new branches in Bristol and Nottingham in 2009. This expansion allowed Purple Frog Property to extend its services to a broader student and professional rental market across these key UK cities. In 2019, Greg, one of the co-founders, departed from the business.
